
Dr. Michele Wyler
- Head Bioinformatics
Michele has been the Head of Bioinformatics since December 2021. His extensive bioinformatics expertise is key to experimental planning and data management strategies: Analysis, design, implementation and documentation of solutions, training and project knowledge to be transferred to staff and clients.
Previously Michele was a Bioinformatician at MWSchmid GmbH, handling processing, analysis and documentation of various genomics data.
Furthermore, he worked for diverse farm enterprises, attended different agricultural and extension events, had been a Plant Science Doctoral Student, PSC and Syngenta Research Fellow since 2016 at the University of Zürich, Institute of Plant Biology. He has been working on the epigenetic impact of transposable elements on gene expression in Brachypodium distachyon. Previously he completed his Thesis at ETH Zürich in Agroecosystem Science in 2016 on: The influence of natural UV-B on the gene expression and the protein accumulation of Arabidopsis thaliana at the Evolutionary and Ecological Genomics Group (Shimizu Lab, UZH).
He also provided technical support for lab members as Research Assistant at the Martinoia Group, University of Zürich, the Crop Science Group, ETH Zürich and the Cardiology Group of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zürich.
He has considerable Teaching Experience in basic and advanced data management and manipulation using R, at the Plant Science Center Zürich. In 2018 he was an Organizing Member of a Workshop for young researchers from Zurich, Kyoto, Bristol, and Heidelberg. He has also contributed to 10 publications, with 2 more currently underway.
