Mercedes is Molecular Geneticist at Puregene with a keen interest in agronomically important crops to secure sustainable food production and safety. With extensive fieldwork and greenhouse experience, she investigates plants in changing environments or under standardized conditions.
The combination of basic and applied research during her PhD in Plant Biochemistry at ETH Zürich, enables her to gain and apply molecular and biochemistry skills to different crop and model species. Also, to upscale and implement these techniques for a goal-oriented company. She particularly enjoys statistical analysis of big data and has proved to be a great asset to the team.
She obtained her Masters in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2016.
