We are seeking an experienced Tissue Culture Technician to join the team in Switzerland. This role is crucial in supporting establishment and maintaining a tissue culture facility dedicated to preserving genetic resources and enhancing breeding programs. As a Tissue Culture Technician, you will apply advanced propagation techniques to support breeding and production, ensuring high-quality rigorous work collaborating on innovative methodologies that drive genetic improvement.

Tissue Culture Technician

Your responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Protocol Development
    • Be part of the establishment and maintenance of a state-of-the-art tissue culture facility, implementing and refining protocols for cannabis tissue preservation and propagation
  • Advanced Tissue Culture Application
    • Utilize cutting-edge techniques to accelerate breeding, including ploidy manipulation and methods for enhanced genetic outcomes
  • Tissue Culture Production & Management
    • Oversee the production and regeneration of plants, ensuring smooth transitions from lab to greenhouse or field for breeding or production purposes
  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Implement new tissue culture technologies to enhance the efficiency and quality of the breeding pipeline, supporting the company’s long-term goals for genetic improvement
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with the breeding team to align tissue culture outputs with breeding objectives, coordinating with key team members to provide timely material for critical projects

Your profile:

  • Education & Background
    • MSc or Ph.D. in Plant Science, Biotechnology, Horticulture, or a related field
  • Experience
    • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in plant tissue culture, ideally with experience in cannabis or hemp, or other traditional commercial crops
  • Technical Skills
    • Proficiency in tissue culture techniques, including callus/protoplast production, and regeneration
    • Experience with sterile techniques, contamination control, and genetic material storage
    • Familiarity with advanced tissue culture methodologies for plant propagation and genetic improvement
  • Additional Experience
    • Prior experience with cannabis or similar species is desirable
